
Odoh Checks Ghanaian 'Nightmare', win CMCL Open
Sunshine Tour returnee, Andrew Oche Odoh put a stop to the ravagingform of Ghanaian number one professional golfers at the 9th CMCL Openin Abuja to announce his comeback to the local scene after five monthabroad."These boys are good" declared, Emos Korblah the Ghanaian star thatwas denied his second Nigerian title in the on-going season by Ochewho is almost twenty years younger in age.For Oche he said it was a very important victory for him beyondpocketing the N200, 000 winners cheque. But I must confess it heated one" hesaid.Oche lead the pack of professionals at the event from the first day ofthe event when he shot 71 one under to tie with Jude Idakwoji (aformer assistant resident pro at the IBB International Golf andCountry Club). He however set the lead clearer with a 69 and 73 on thesecond and the third rounds respectively, to set him up against Korbahwho had come from behind to win a PGA tournament upper week in Beninbeating Umoh Edet.Korblah later complained that he lost control of his lower iron shots:"that was what cost me the event."Oche teed off his closing round with repeated bogies on the 57th and58th to drop his three strokes advantage to one made a stunning returnlater in the round, recovering enough to edge Korblah to six shotlead.Edet Umoh too staged a comeback that saw snatch the runner-up spotfrom the Korbah after returning the best round of the event, a 68,four under par. Former number one Gboyega Oyebanji finished in fourthplace while Morgan Atako from Port Harcourt Main Club won the fifthplace at the event.
