MTN's WGC: DIETTE-SPIFF, PETTERS IN EAGLE SPREE
*Leads 13 Others to National Final
King Alfred Ditte-Spiff, the Amayanabo of Iwon Brass Kingdom and Eddie Petters shot two eagles at the eastern regional qualifier of the MTN World Golfers Championship at the Port Harcourt Golf club last Saturday to lead the pack of qualifier to the national final later in September.
Sixty years old Petters who was a former captain of the club applauded the quality of organization at the event but pleaded for sponsors to accommodate the professional in their future events. "The professional" he said "are the future of the game and I would like a situation where MTN would in the future think of having them in their event. It would be a great honour"
Petters branding three handicaps edged John Izim (who returned the best gross score at the event with handicap one) on countback ruling after both carded 75 nett score in the 18 holes hostilities. Lanky Richard Ohonbamu finished one stroke behind to complete the qualifiers in the category one range.
King Alfred Diette-Spiff eagled two par fours on the day to return 74 nett score leaving Friday Ogbonna and David Oparaodu to pick the other slots in the category-two class. Other winners are Ray Onah who shot closest to the pin on par three hole-six, Friday Akpodiete out-drove all with his well over 300 meters on hole eleven to pick the longest drive for the event.
Judith Obomanu-Assasi, Kio Lucky, Ogunleye Femi, Chris Allagoa, Unuekhai Eddie and Godswill Hart are other winners at the eastern regional qualifier that features 168 players battling for ticket for the MTN's World Golfers Championship final billed for the Le Meridien Golf Course and Resort in Uyo on September 8 and 9.
