Nigeria Cup;
Pam Trudge over Favourites
Abuja based Daniel Pam stroked out yesterday with 68, three under par to emerge top in the one day professional invitational slot of the on-going Nigeria Cup golf championship at Ikoyi Golf Club in Lagos ahead of other favourite players.
The win is the first for the Plaeatue born pro who started his professional golf playing career form the Minna in January 2007.
"I am definitely happy with this win, I can only do better. The Ikoyi Course is well kept and I think this win is reward for my toil on the practice range"
Pam leveled the front nine in the eighteen-hole play and returned the back nine with 32 gross score (three under par) to card his winning score. He went ahead commend the sponsors of the yearly invitational event saying he hoped it would have been a full championship where the win would have counted for him on the PGA ranking.
Ghanana's Emos Korbah came in in close second position with his 70, one under par while Air Assault based Ibrahim Ocheje and Andrew Oche Odoh ( Nigeria's current number one) were in joint third place shooting 72, one over par.
Odoh said that some of the distance markers on the course could have shifted or otherwise some markers were wrongly placed. And that cost him some strokes in the event.
"It is a good outing for me. But I am most happy for Daniel Pam. We have always trusted him as one of the players to look out for in the future and it is good to see him take his first win in this invitational."
Gboeyga Oyebanji and Willy Gift are tied in the joint third place at 73 two over par.
The 2008 Nigeria Cup teed off with caddies round on Monday and would be rounded off on 4th and 5th of October with amateur rounds
