GLOBAL GOLF CONSIDERS BACKING OUT FROM IBOM

With the national finals of the international pairs event now a forgone matter, Global Golf Limited the franchise holders now have its eyes set on making a success of their second baby – the World Amateur Championship.


By June 9 precisely the regional qualifies of the, WAC gets underway at the Port Harcourt Golf Club. And with telecom giant MTN backing, the group (Global Golf) has lofty plotting for this year's national finals.


One of the trappings in the event is to have Nigeria's representative emerge at the much hyped Le Meridien Golf Resort in Akwa Ibom. But there is a second strain of thought running in their mind now and the result may see them resting the Akwa Ibom idea altogether.


Businessday scoped that officials of Global Golf are billed for an assessment tour of the Ibom facility in June and could change their mind if they return. The decision (to embark on assessment trip) has however been strengthened by barrage of worrisome fellers from the state on the condition of the course. Some publication has also highlighted it too.


Meanwhile Businessday sources in Akwa informs the outgoing governor of Akwa Ibom, Architect Victor Attah who masterminded the golf facility has been furious at recent publications on the facility and has ordered the course closed till July.


He has also given (according to our source) the contractors a July deadline to put the course in perfect condition.


The Global Golf/MTN event is billed for September 8 and 9 and by that time baring other things the course could be ready to host the finals of the World Amateur Championship.
